Vulcan 'Live Long and Prosper' Emoji Coming to Apple Devices

Apple is introducing an emoji Apple is introducing an emoji inspired by iconic Star Trek character Spock to iOS devices and Mac computers.

The symbol, which depicts the Vulcan's famous 'Live Long and Prosper' salute, is included in the Cupertino firm's latest beta operating systems, reports Quartz.

The V hand gesture was approved by computer text standards body the Unicode Consortium last year, but it is up to individual technology companies to decide whether to adopt it.

Leonard Nimoy, who portrayed Spock in the Star Trek movies and countless TV episodes, devised the salute based on his orthodox Jewish heritage.

The emoticon is expected to be available on OS X machines and iOS mobile devices when the software exits beta testing later this year.

Nimoy passed away in February of this year at the age of 83.
