Viral Short Film 'The Leviathan' Gets Neill Blomkamp's Support

Sci-fi director Ruairí Robinson made quite a dent in the internet last week when he released his proof of concept The Leviathan. The short film clocks in at under four minutes long and features a team of spaceship pilots hunting a giant flying whale-like beast in the clouds. Needless to say, it's amazing.

After going viral, racking up over a million views in just a week between YouTube and Vimeo, it looks like the ambitious project might be getting some big-time backing. Deadline reports X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg has signed on to help Robinson bring his idea to fruition, along with Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, Chappie) as executive producer.

By the looks of it, Robinson is thrilled.

Kinberg is also signed on as creative consultant for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Blomkamp is working on a new Alien movie, so although it still needs studio backing, it looks like The Leviathan is in good hands.
