Авианосец «Викрант», первый корабль такого класса, спроектированный индийской промышленностью, 10 июня 2015 года вышел из сухого дока, сообщает The Times of India. Церемония вывода авианосца из сухого дока состоялась на предприятии Cochin Shipyard Limited в Коччи штата Керала. В ближайшее время корабль будет достроен, а затем пройдет швартовные и ходовые испытания. Как ожидается, индийские ВМС получат корабль до конца текущего года.
Церемония спуска «Викранта» на воду состоялась 12 августа 2013 года. Строящийся корабль унаследовал имя старого авианосца, построенного еще в 1945 году и купленного Индией у Великобритании. Несмотря на то, что «Викрант» строится по индийскому проекту и на индийской судоверфи, в нем широко используются импортные комплектующие. По многим характеристикам авианосец похож на «Викрамадитью», купленный у России и переоборудованный в авианосец тяжелый авианесущий крейсер «Адмирал Горшков».
«Викрант» имеет водоизмещение в 37500 тонн (по иным данным в 40000) и рассчитан на использование палубных истребителей МиГ-29К. Численность авиагруппы составит 12-14 самолетов. Кроме истребителей на борту разместятся до десяти вертолетов. Длина индийского корабля составляет 252 метра. Четыре газотурбинных двигателя должны обеспечить скорость полного хода в 28 узлов (52 километра в час).
