Delta Wants to Pre-Load Your Carry-On Bags for You

For every extra minute a plane sits idle at the gate, the airline loses $30. With a quarter of all flights across America running at least 15 minutes behind, that really adds up.
Delta Airlines is trying a new tactic to save a little dough (and no, it's not another fee. This time.) The Atlanta-based carrier is testing a speedier boarding process in which its employees preload the passengers' carry-on bags before the boarding process officially begins. Early Valet, as it's called, aims to cut down on the amount of time people waste stuffing their carry-on luggage in the overhead compartments.
Early Valet is being offered through August on about two dozen flights from New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, and four other hubs. Delta did a trail run of Early Valet in Los Angeles and Atlanta last summer and noticed it reduced boarding times, reports the Associated Press.
