You're a commercial pilot with just over 250 hours of total time and want to start your professional pilot career, but either don't have your CFI or don't want to be a CFI. Here are 7 jobs for you:
1) Fish Spotting
Whether it be over Alaska, the Chesapeake Bay, or the Gulf Coast, fishing companies hire pilots to give their boats an eye in the sky to find schools of fish.
2) Air Tours
Derek Pasiewicz was hired at 18 years old and just over 250 hours to fly helicopter air tours in St. Augustine, Florida.
3) Skydive Jump Pilot
At 325 hours, Jeremiah Johnson was hired to fly as a skydive jump pilot in Colorado. If you're looking for a job that's filled with excited passengers, look no further than skydiving.
4) Pipeline Patrol
Patrol pilots fly cross-country at low altitudes along pipelines or power lines, checking for signs of damage, vandalism and other conditions requiring repairs.
5) Banner Towing
Banner towing requires a special kind of pilot, someone that's willing to spend up to 8 hours a day flying low and slow around the same routes over and over. But if you want to build 1,000 hours in a year like Haley Howard, this might be the job for you.
6) Agricultural Pilot (Crop Dusting)
AG pilots fly specially-designed aircraft to apply herbicides, insecticides, seeds and fertilizers on crops, orchards, forests, fields, and swamps.
7) Go International
Many international airlines hire pilots for turbine jobs right at 250 hours and a commercial certificate. For instance, Susi Air is a scheduled and charter airline based Indonesia; they hire first officers to fly onboard Cessna 208 Caravans, connecting small Indonesian cities to major airport hubs.
