An Air Force cadet has died after he was found injured in his Air Force Academy dorm Thursday.
The name of the cadet has not been released because it is Department of Defense policy to withhold the name of the deceased until 24 hours after notification of next of kin.
Academy spokesman John Van Winkle said the cadet was found dead in his dormitory room at 3:43 p.m. The incident happened on the closed area of the campus where cadets live and study. The cause of his death is unknown at this time.
"The safety and well-being of our cadets and staff is my top concern," Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson, Air Force Academy Superintendent, said"We are taking the appropriate precautionary actions to ensure the safety and security of everyone at the Academy."
In January, the academy increased security on the 18,500-acre campus and required all people using the school's trails and recreational areas to use a buddy system after a pair of attacks.
Officials declined to talk about the nature of those attacks.
