Visitors to Mall of America in Minnesota soon will be able to see the entire country without ever stepping a foot outside. The complex announced that it is building a $20 million virtual reality ride called FlyOver America that takes people on a tour of American landmarks and scenery.
The attraction, slated to open next spring, suspends riders 10 to 25 feet in the air while footage captured from helicopter-mounted cameras is projected on a huge dome. Wafts of scents, mist and wind are also used for a "fully immersive experience," writes Twin Cities.com. A similar ride is already open in Vancouver called FlyOver Canada.
Let's just hope that New York in August and Minneapolis in February aren't stops on the tour.
