Remembering US Airways, In 4 Classic Ads

Nearly 16 months since US Airways announced it was merging with American Airlines, the combined airline is now operating under a single operating certificate. Flyers won't notice a change, but it's a big deal internally because it means the merger will fully come together.
"You have to create mirror images of the companies in terms of operating policies and producers long before you can bring people together," AA's Chief Operating Officer Robert Ison told Bloomberg.
Perhaps the most nostalgic part of the news is that its distinctive "Cactus" call sign has officially gone away. US Airways began using that after its 2005 merger with Phoenix-based America West. All flights will be known as "American" going forward.

US Airways' identity has been slowly chipped away since the 2013 merger was announced. In February, the US Airways account on Twitter closed and the two airlines combined its frequent flyer program under the AAdvantage brand last month. A unified reservation system will be installed later this year.
However, problems in the marriage still persist. "The carrier also is not yet close to mixing American and US Airways flight crews and aircraft, which mostly amounts to working out union labor issues," writes theChicago Tribune.
So, before US Airways completely disappears next year, let's remember the little airline that could with these cheesy commercials:
Complete with a catchy chorus of singers and a creepy Sarah Jessica Parker-like eye, this commercial from the 1980s clearly delivers the message that they just want to be noticed.
Awkward. In this US Air commercial from 1990, they threw some major shade at its current spouse American Airlines.
Long before JetBlue's Terminal 5 at JFK, apparently people thought US Airways' outpost at LaGuardia was, uh... nice. Or at least the airline did.
If this doesn't pump you up for an airline merger, than nothing will.
