The Flexrotor lifts off vertically, can stay in the air for over 40 hours, and is designed for maritime use, One of it's intended uses? Hunting down fish poachers.
The drone, which weighs 45 pounds and has a wingspan of almost 10 feet, is a potentially better option for keeping and eye in the sky than the helicopters more commonly used. Flexrotor uses a flexible turret equipped with a regular and infrared camera to search out and track the fish. This, plus being able to stay aloft for so long, is what its creators say make it better suited for long flights over water than traditional quadcopters.
According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, the drones each cost $200,000, but the cost isn't an issue. Making enough of them is. "The level of interest is high, we think our problem is going to be ramping up enough rather than having a lot of [drones] on our hands," President Tad McGeer told the publication.
Which, all in all, sounds like a good problem to have.
